final comment about the project

this year it was really different in class because we did really the project and it was different for me than last year.
During the first term we practised a little bit for the selectivitat exams but we did more grammar like in the second term.
The third term was different because we did always things to improve our level to do selectivitat exams and we did only one grammar exam. This year was perfect for me because I had new friends and they were very kind with me and in general I had better marks in all the subjects.
Finally i have to say that congratulations for all the classmates which have passed second of batxillerat and say thank you for the english teachers for beeing pacient with us because I know that it is dificult. the best thing was the expirience of a native speaker in class. His name is Anika and she has been here in the high school to talk with the students an to improve her level of spanish and to learn some words in catalan.

byeeeeee!!kisses

WHAT I DO WITH ANIKA THIS TERM

this term in the language room we went with her to talk about different topics like the first impression of a person, the politicians....we talked about each topic during 5 minutes and we discussed with Meritxell and she about our different opinions we had about the different topics.

1- Pride and prejudice??? Explain the title: who's got pride? who's got prejudice?

Mr. Darcy has got pride and Elisabeth has got prejudice, because during the film Darcy doesn't want to see the reality and Elisabeth judge him without know about him.

2- View the trailer of the film and write what they say.

-He is here.
- is he amiable?
-Is he handsome?
-He is single.
Have a list!
-Aaaa!
-Oh my goodness everybody behave and act naturally.
-Mr. Collins at your service.
-And in Europe we are marrying a rich man was the most a woman could hope for: Elisabeth Benet was way ahead a few time
-sir
-i can not accept you
-don't worry M.r Collins tell her you are insistable on marrying.
- oh please.
-you will have this house.
-i can't marry him
-and say your sisters on destitution.
-i can not make me!
-crying.
-from Jane Austen the devoloped author of Emma and sense and sensibility.
-that is M.r Darcy.
-he looks miserable poor soul.
-miserable he maybe but poor he most certanly is not.
-do you dance M.r Darcy?
- not if I can help it.
- what on earth have you don to poor M.r Darcy
- I have no idea
- I don't have the talent of conversing easily with people i haven't met before.
- perhaps you should practise.
- may i have the next dance miss Elisabeth?
- he would be most inconvinient since i've known him since eternity.
- men.(laughing)
-he is so rich.
- other evidences.your this snope you are.
- this for focus features presents the story of a modern women.
- M.r darcy is engaged to my daughter.
- do you think this union can be prevented by i young woman of in theory a bith
- she discovered the one person she can not stay is the one men she may not be able to resist
- do you expect me to rejoice in the inferiority of your circumstances.
In the first moment I met you. You aren't can maybe relax....

3- Life in the Jane Austen's times (bonus material)
Comment on some differences that caught your attention.

the society during this time was very different than now because they were differences in the family, the social class etc.

Another thing that has caught our attention was that the a perfect woman had to have knowledges about music, art...

4- The State homes
Choose one of the houses where the film was set. Look up
basic info, a picture and a moment in the film you particularly like.
Chatworth house

The 'Palace of the Peak' is a family home which was built to be shared with visitors. You are invited to walk at your own pace through the house, absorbing the atmosphere of its beautiful rooms and the story that they tell of the family's history over the last 450 years.
The house contains one of Europe's finest private art collections, representing 4000 years of European culture and craftsmanship, from ancient Greece to modern work by British artists. Between March and October these treasures are seen in magnificent rooms on all three floors of the house, from the grandeur of the 1st Duke's Painted Hall and State Apartments with their rich decoration and painted ceilings, to the 19th century Library, Great Dining Room and Sculpture Gallery. Wardens in the rooms can answer your questions, and there are beautiful guidebooks and an audio guide available.
One moment in the film was when Mr. Darcy says to Elisabeth that he loves her.

5- Dating traditions (bonus material)
*What do you do when you meet people for the first time? Talk with this person about your life and ask to him/her about some things. Are there any accepted social norms? No it isn't like in XIX century.
*Answering these questions may help you:
1. Where did people go in order to find a good husband / wife? In a ball.
2. Who went dancing? All the people who went there.
3. What were the rules of behaviour for a man when a lady walked in a room? Stand up and bow.
4. When did people have the opportunity to talk with the person they were interested in alone? No normally they were in family.
5. Describe the first time Darcy touches Elisabeth. When she goes up to the carriage and mr. darcy touches her hand.
6. CONCLUSION: Should there be some basic social norms for dating? Suggest 3 basic ideas.
- Being more respectful.
- Look more in the eyes.
- Don't kiss the first time.

6- Keira Knightley

She plays one of the most important female roles in literature. What is your view Ms Elizabeth Bennett? Is she a heroine? How different is she from her sisters?
Listen to the interview with Keira Knightley about the film.

Ms. Elisabeth is more intelligent, she isn't traditional because she does what she likes and what she thinks. Yes. She doesn't agree with traditional aspects of the moment.

7- AlternativeUS ending: Why is a different ending required? Which do you prefer?

Because the US people want to see the kiss because they are more traditional and more romantic.
I prefer the second end because I like to see the kiss.

8- Views on marriage. This is Jane Austen's opinion:
"Happiness in marriage is entirely a matter of chance. If the dispositions of the parties are ever so well known to each other or ever so similar beforehand, it does not advance their felicity in the least(...)and it is better to know as little as possible of the defects of the person with whom you are to pass your life."
from: Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice, 1811
  • What do you think? Knowing each other very well is no guarantee of happiness?
  • No I don't agree with this because if you know each other very well you can improve things that the other person don't like.
  • Write your opinion in 100 words: "Happiness in marriage is a question of chance"
In my opinion happiness in marriage is a question of chance because you have to work a lot that the marriage works well.
In the one hand, you have to entrust in the person who you are married because if you don't entrust with her/him the marriage would be very difficult. If you are gelous the marriage would not work at all because it would be very difficult for both persons.
In the other hand, if you have chance you would have happiness in marriage because that's the question.
On the whole, have chance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Should we do the research paper in batxillerat?

In my opinion the research paper is a good way to learn more things about the topic you have chosen.
Firstly, I have to say that for me it was interesting and also funny to do it. I think that before you choose the topic you have to be sure that you would be interested in doing it. I also have to say that Catalonia is the only place where we have to do the research paper.
Furthermore, I think that it was a lot of work because at the same time we had exams and from my point of view it was one of the reasons why I retake.
Finally, I don't think that they have to eliminate the research paper but I think that it sould not be compulsory and that it could be a way to improve the final mark.

In the picture above the text I can see a beach and a sunset which the sun goes down. It is a little bit dark. The sun is reflectes on the water. In the water there are people swimming.
Sometimes, I would like to be therewhen I have moments which I feel stressed and I feel bad, when I want to stay on my own because I have problems with my parents, friends... I think that it's a place to disconnect. This place transmit to me lots of feelings like freedom, calmless and peace.
This picture is nice, beautiful, fantastic, wonderful etc. I love places like that because the beach is one of the most beautiful places I know.
Sarah Hannity's presentation about Belfast: A comment.

In my opinion the oral presentation of Sarah Hannity was very good in all the aspects; it was really interesting, good pronounciation, no reading, good estructure and good power point with lots of photos.
I think that having a native speaker in the English classes is a very good idea because is an excellent way to practise the language, the pronouciaton etc.

Writing of Selectivitat.

- Hello Mr. Hudson, welcome to our programme! Can I ask you some questions about being a farmer nowadays?
- Yes, of course. Why not?
- I would like to ask you about your style of life now and before because I know that all is changing now.
- Yes, you are right.Life today as a farmer is really complicated because it is a profession which is dying out because of the invention of new technologies. Before one of invention, the important professions was being a farmer to have something to sell to earn some money to survive.
- Ok, thank you for your attention and for answering my questions. Bye and good luck!
-Thank you, the same to you!

What was the first impact of the film on you?
The world is changing a lot because the humans pollute the environment and they also destroy the Earth for example, when they cut down trees or when they do fire in the forests etc.
The consequences are:
-> Monsoons.
-> Fires.
-> Huracans.
-> Tsunamis.
-> Floods.
The climate is changing because every year the temperatures are increasing a lot since 2005.

What didin't you know about global warming that you learnt in the film and surprised you?
I didn't know exactly what it was but we found a definition about the global warming in the internet and we thought that it was correct so I decided to put it here.
Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of the Earth's near-surface air and oceans in recent decades and its projected continuation.

How can we take action?
Clean or replace filters on your furnace and air conditioner.
Replace a regular incandescent light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb (cfl).
Turn off electronic devices you’re not using.
Be sure you’re recycling at home.
Buy fresh foods instead of frozen.

Are you ready to change your lifestyle?

Option A: Write a 100 word composition defending your opinion.

In my opinion, this problem is very dangerous because it can affect at the society from nowadays. For example, it is endangering polar animals like bears, sea seals and others. It is also shortening ski seasons and creating more intense storms which are destroying the world where we live.
Firstly, I have to say that global warming is affecting the world. I know how to fix this problem and prevent global environmental disasters but it's really complicated to carry out with it.
Furthermore, if you are the only one who proposes to do things that can help the world to prevent the global warming it is not solution about the problem but things that you could do are turning off electronic devices you're not using, waste less water, etc.
finally i have to say that the world is changing in lots of aspects and i think that it is really difficult to do something to prevent the global warming.

your mum speaking

which expressions can you understand?
make your bed
be careful
clean your room
no more computer time tonight
eat the food I put in your plate
look at me when i am talking
don't forget i love you.muak
wash your teeth
watch your books and do your homework now
don't forget you have to feed the cat
can you hear the words i say
you will thank me for the opinions I say
tell the truth
everything must be in place
stop crying
be polite say please, excuse me,
your ipod my ipod if you don't listen

how many of this expressions sound familiar to you?
all of them;)

are this sentences necessary to raise a child?
perhaps it isn't necessary but it is a good way to raise a child because if you don't want nothing from a child he does with you what he want.

list must and mustn'ts on how to educate a child today in your opinion/experience?
you must give orders.
you must help them with all their problems.
you must be strict but also trust with things they do which are normal.
you must be polite to gain the confidence.
you mustn'ts hit them if they do some bad things.
you mustn'ts give them a lot of responsibilities when they are little.
you must be pacient.
you must give them everything to eat.
you must say to them to help at home before playing or go to somewhere.
you don't must to say no at all things they do because they would do it anyway.

"children are not properly educated by their parents today"state your opinion in 100 words.

In my opinion, childs today have a very diferent view of things than his parents because before life was more much dificult than now. 30 years ago parents were more strict, and teachers were it also but with the things they had to learn, in the way of teach, raising them...before they could hit the students and punish them in a very hard way. Now they couldn't do it. Life was dificult in all the ways...
fristly, I have to say that children are very bad raised today because parents haven't got the same patience and if his children won't do something they let them do what they want. Life has changed and now childs control his parents, teachers and all the adults in general, it is sad to say that but it is like that.
furthermore it's parent's fault all what the childs do bad because they don't have ideas to bring up his own children so they have to put they same the blame.
in conclusion parents from nowadays don't know how to educate childs correctly.

>>MaTcH PoInT<<

the subtitles off this film are passion, obsession and temptation. explain why watching the trailer.
passion is really a big thing from the film because chris has got a really big passion with Nola because she is a beautiful and impressive girl. about obsession i can say that there are a lot during the film like Chris with Nola and also when Chloe wants to have a child with Chris. the temptation in the film is that Chris has only Nola in mind because for him she is an obsession and durin the film she felt in the temptaion to kiss her when he is with chloe at the same time.

watch this amazing take. at what point of the film does it take place?who is talking first?how does the director present the two characters?how can you interpret this words? Translate this dialogue into english.

it takes place in the middle of the film. Nola is the first one who talks. Chris shows like he doesn't know what to say and he seems a shy person but when he begans to speak it isn't like in the begining. Nola is defiant during all the film and that's way Chris is so obsessionate with her.
Nola: well, which is my victim, you?
Chris: it does a lot of time that I don't play ping-pong.
Nola: do you want to play for 1000 pounds the match?
Chris: where I
Nola:
Chris: it is like that. if you don't mind.
Nola: please
Chris: you have to incline yourself and accompained the ball.
Nola:it was really good before you where here.
Chris:ah my eternal destined. and say to me what does a beautiful american player of ping pong involved int the high english class.
Nola: had sombody said to you that you have a very agressive play?
Chris: had somebody said to you that you have a very sensual mouth?
Nola: agressive

Chris: result it disturbed
Nola:i have to medited a few minutes.

3. The characters
Describe each character in 3 adjectives or expressions.
Chris, Nola, Chloe, Tom, the mother, the father

Chris: kind, agressive, sensual.
Nola: unkind, nice, beautiful.
Chloe: innocent,posh and pleasant.
Tom: posh, simpathetic and attractive.
the mother: hysterical, posh and friky.
the father: unkind, unpleasant and very serious.

4- Several different English accents are to be found in the film.

Irish
English middle class (BBC English)
London Cockney

4a. Which character speaks with which accent?

5- Comment on this scene. What do you think?
Is luck or hard work what makes a difference?

I think that the director wants to say to us that in this life you can have goodluck or perhaps no it depends in a lot of things.
and the director wants to say the same with this words.

6- The title is a tennis expression: why is this title used by the director?

the title is used by the director because the main character wons the last point because he kills the two persons which will bring him problems during his life.

7- Woody Allen, the director is known for his opinions and sayings, which are often quoted. Look for some quotes and choose one that you like in particular. Say why.

I tended to place my wife under a pedestal.
we think that it is original but we don't like it because he's a male chauvinist!!
